This cookie policy explains what cookies and similar technologies are, which ones Business Boardroom uses at https://businessboardroom.org/, why we use them and how you can control them. It should be read together with our privacy policy.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit it. They let the site remember your actions and settings, recognize your device on later visits and measure how the site is used. Similar technologies, such as local storage and tracking pixels, do the same kind of job. In this policy, we use the word “cookies” for all of them.
Cookies set by us are called first-party cookies. Cookies set by other companies, such as analytics, advertising and affiliate partners, are called third-party cookies.
The types of cookies we use
| Category | What it is for | Examples | Typical lifespan | Consent needed? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Keeps the site working and secure, and remembers your cookie choice. | Session and security cookies, the cookie that stores your consent choice, WordPress login and comment cookies | Session to 12 months | No |
| Analytics | Shows us how many people visit, which pages they read and how they found us, so we can improve the site. | Google Analytics cookies such as _ga and _ga_* | Up to 2 years | Yes |
| Advertising | Helps to show and measure ads, and to limit how often you see the same ad. | Google AdSense or other ad network cookies, if ads are enabled | Typically up to 13 months | Yes |
| Affiliate tracking | Lets a company or network know that you arrived from our site, so that we can be credited for a sale. | Cookies set by the merchant or affiliate network after you click an affiliate link | Typically 30 to 90 days, set by the partner | Yes |
The exact names and lifespans of third-party cookies are decided by the companies that set them and may change. The cookie banner on the site shows the current list for the cookie categories you can choose from.
How we ask for your consent
When you first visit the site, a cookie banner lets you accept all cookies, refuse non-essential cookies or choose by category. Strictly necessary cookies are always on, because the site cannot work without them. Analytics, advertising and affiliate cookies are only set if you agree to them. Refusing them does not stop you from reading the site. We keep a record of your choice so that we do not ask you again on every visit.
How to change or withdraw your consent
You can change your mind at any time. Use the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of any page to open the settings again, review your choices and save new ones. Withdrawing consent stops further use of those cookies, but it does not affect what was done with them before you withdrew it.
Controlling cookies in your browser
Most browsers let you see, block and delete cookies through their settings. You can usually find this under privacy or security options. Blocking all cookies, including strictly necessary ones, may stop parts of the site from working properly, for example comment forms. You can also use your browser’s private mode, which deletes cookies when you close it. Because every browser is different, check the help pages of the browser you use.
Affiliate links and third-party cookies
When you click an affiliate link on our site and then go to the company’s website, that company or its affiliate network may set a cookie on your device. This is how it knows we sent you. We do not control these cookies, and their use is covered by the privacy policies of the companies that set them. More about how we earn commissions is on our affiliate disclosure page.
Do not track and opt-out signals
Where required by law, we respect browser signals that tell sites not to sell or share your data, such as Global Privacy Control. You can also opt out of advertising cookies using the cookie settings on our site.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when we add or remove tools, or when the law changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. If a change affects the cookies we ask you about, we will ask for your choice again.
